Holding a Māori Ward Referendum

Voting commences Monday 22nd September. Tuesday 7th October is the last day to vote by post, and all voting closes Saturday the 11th of October at 12 noon.

Can’t send your vote by post? All councils holding elections are legally required to provide secure ballot drop-off boxes, so head down to your council building and make your voice heard.

Not Holding a Māori Ward Referendum

Leadership comes from the people who serve, who listen, and who act in the best interests of everyone, not from labels or special treatment.

Before we had four Māori councillors around the table, now we only have three. Two previous Māori councillors have unfortunately lost their jobs … So you have to be careful what you wish for when you set these policies — and unfortunately, we haven’t seen a good result in Rotorua because of them.
